Road Trip

November 14th, 2008

In the summer of 2002, I tried to drive off the edge of the world. Despite gasoline being much less of a finite resource at the time, it didn’t exactly work. Something about time slowing down when you speed up… who knows. At least I was able to remember where I went.

Twilight waned as the moonshine filled the sky and he didn’t mind a thing.
On his way to another place where the world could end and he’d know his fate.

Deep felt rhythms plagued the road as he drove along with a twisted grin.
Tires sang and the steel churned flames as the tailpipe dusted sooty wind

slowly sipping on cigarettes, fresh pack resting between the seats.
The nicotine and caffeine needles laced his blood and denied him sleep

clammy palms clutched the wheel with quivered limbs that could somehow last
The wheels kept humming and the stars flew by all over an earth that was falling fast

Markers denote stops.
